Culinary Chair -
Chef Jolaade "Chef Jolli" Aboaba
The journey to achieve her dream of becoming a chef was an unconventional one. Chef Jolli’s passion for cooking began when she was about 3-4 years old. You could always find her in the kitchen attached to her mother's hip. She loved to spend time with her mom and watch her mosey about in her happy place.
Her mom would go in the kitchen and magic would come out! As she got older, she would eagerly beg to help out and her mom eventually let her (even at the expense of a few butchered recipes and broken china).
Her love for food and being in the kitchen further developed in junior high and high school. She took every home economics elective available. After going on a class field trip to the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) during her senior year at Conard High School in West Hartford, CT, she knew she was destined to become a professional chef. However, at that time her parents were not keen on the idea and upon their insistence, she attended a traditional four-year university at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, VA.
After graduating from VCU with a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice, she spent several years working in corporate America throughout the NYC Metro. Despite all her career advancements, she still felt like something was missing.
While working full-time, she began taking dessert orders from family and friends. This led to a steady side business through word-of-mouth advertisement. A year into filling orders on evenings and the weekends, she decided it was time to finally pursue her lifelong passion of becoming a professional chef.
She enrolled in a Baking & Pastry Arts certificate program at Hudson County Community College (HCCC) and attended class on the weekends. Upon completing her certification, her mother received a job opportunity to relocate to Miami, FL. That’s when Chef Jolli took a leap of faith and quit her corporate paralegal job in order to relocate with her and enroll full-time Miami Culinary Institute.
She completed her internship at The Hotel Hershey. She then went on to work for “Cake Boss”, where she designed a cake for the Oscars and a Sports Illustrated Super Model (among many other projects). After which she worked for a leading catering company in the NYC Metro, before ultimately deciding to branch out her own.
A few of her notable accomplishments include leading her culinary school competition team to win a People’s Choice Award, assisting a James Beard Award-Winning Celebrity Chef at the South Beach Wine & Food Festival, providing pastry chef services to a Food Network Chopped Champion and hosting a segment on ABC’s “The Chew”.
Chef Jolli has over 15 years’ experience working in the hospitality industry at several prestigious restaurants and hotels. She has worked with top chefs from all over the country. She is a certified bartender & barista and private chef, catering to clients all around the NYC Metro.
She volunteers annually as a Culinary Lead at the New York City Wine & Food Festival (NYCWFF), the Food Film Festival and at the South Beach Wine & Food Festival (SOBEWFF) whenever possible. She has been committee member for the American Cancer Society’s Taste of Hope NJ for the past 2 years.
Chef Jolli founded her company JADA's Delights in March 2008 with the idea of providing a better, fresher, more robust flavor profile in the way savory and sweet dishes are made and enjoyed. She incorporates her Southern, Jamaican and Nigerian background in every bite. She also recently started her own social impact wine business with ONEHOPE as a Cause Entrepreneur. The food & beverage industry is not just a love, it’s an unwavering passion of hers!
Chef Jolli offers private chef services, catering, desserts (including tiered-cakes), wine tastings, corporate gifting, fundraising, cooking lessons, birthday parties, meal prepping and consulting.
